What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?


First, I appreciate that Edith Piaf is a very vague connection to the question, but when I read today’s prompt, the song ‘Je ne regrette rien’ came into my head.
Personally, I don’t suffer with negativity. My cup is always half full, never half empty. However, as a counsellor, here are some thoughts…
Coping with negative feelings is essential for emotional well-being. Here are some strategies that can help:
1. Acknowledge Your Feelings

- Accept that negative emotions are a normal part of life.

- Avoid suppressing or ignoring them.
2. Express Yourself

- Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist.

- Write in a journal to process your thoughts.
3. Engage in Relaxation Techniques

- Deep breathing exercises (e.g., box breathing).

- Meditation or mindfulness practices.

- Progressive muscle relaxation.
4. Physical Activity

- Go for a walk or engage in gentle exercise.

- Try yoga or stretching to release tension.
5. Engage in Enjoyable Activities

- Listen to music, read, or watch a favorite movie.

- Pursue hobbies or creative outlets like painting or gardening.
