Crush

Prompt: Write about your first crush.

My first crush was a frightful thing,
A twisty, turny, awkward spring.
Her name was Jane, with eyes so bright,
They filled my world with dizzying light.

My palms would sweat, my knees would knock,
Whenever she was on the block.
My voice would crack, my face turn red,
All sensible thoughts completely fled.

I’d practice lines, both witty, smart,
To capture her elusive heart.
But when she’d pass, I’d just stand still,
And bravely trip upon a sill.

I wrote her notes, with rhymes so grand,
Then crumpled them within my hand.
“You’re like a rose,” one started out,
“That makes my brain just spin about!”

I tried to brave a friendly chat,
And mumbled something ’bout her hat.
She smiled, confused, and walked away,
While I just wished for yesterday.

But oh, the joy, when once she glanced,
And for a second, I entranced!
Or so I thought, with hopeful glee,
She probably just needs to pee.

My first crush, what a funny blur,
A clumsy, heartfelt, foolish stir.
A lesson learned, though hard to chew,
That love, at first, is quite absurdly true.
