How has technology changed your job?
I am retired and have been for over ten years, so technology has no effect on my work, because I don’t!
However, I lived through what to me seemed like an exponential change in the way things were done. As an engineer, I saw the demise of the drawing board and the advent of CAD, manually operated machines into fully automatic and programmed machining centres, the death of the telex and the fax, the introduction of email, virtual meetings, Whatsapp, FaceTime, Skype, plus many more.
Then there are computers in general with vast amounts of information available at the click of a mouse. I remember my first calculator cost me more than a week’s wages my first computer had 64 MB of processing power. My watch now has more than that! All these things were the stuff if science fiction when I was starting out at work.
None of this effects me now, but if you had told me at 18 that by the time I retired at 63, these things would happen, I would have probably laughed.
Now Ai is the new kid on the block, let’s see where that takes us.
