Modesty

Prompt: What are you good at?

I’m very good at modesty, in fact, I am the best,
No one can humble-brag quite like me, put me to the test.
I won an award the other day, for my outstanding grace,
But I barely mentioned it, just a fleeting trace.

My talent for downplaying is truly a great sight,
I deflect all the compliments with all of my mighty might.
“Oh, that old thing?” I’ll murmur, when praised for my great wit,
“It’s just something I scribbled, it will never be a hit.”

They say that  I’m a genius, a prodigy so rare,
But I first shrug and then  I blush, with a humble-pie air.
“Anyone could do it,” I’ll softly proclaim,
(While secretly beaming, enjoying all the fame.)

I volunteer endlessly, for causes oh so grand,
Then whisper, “It was nothing,” with a wave of my hand.
My brilliance is blinding, my charm is off the scale,
But of course I’d never say it, lest my modesty fail.

So next time you see me, achieving my  great feats,
Just remember it’s my  nature, so humble and so sweet.
I’m the master of understatement, the king of great reserve,
And truly, I’m so much better at modesty, more than you deserve.
