What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?
The oldest thing I’m wearing today
Is not these shoes or coat of grey,
It’s not the watch with ticking gold,
Nor wedding band, though years it’s told.
It’s not the threadbare cap I prize,
Or laugh-lined specs upon my eyes.
No, older still, and worn with grace,
My smile, time’s echo on my face.
It’s weathered storms and sunny skies,
And still it fits, and still it tries.
The oldest thing I wear with pride,
My smile, with all it’s held inside.
