Freedom…

What does freedom mean to you?

The salt-laced wind that whips the shore,

Unburdened by what came before.

A boundless sky, a seagull’s flight,

To choose my path in morning’s light.

The quiet thought that takes its hold,

No whispered fear, no story told

To keep it chained, to hold it fast,

But let it bloom and freely cast

Its tendrils out, a reaching vine,

This inner space, this thought of mine.

The open road, a winding track,

No looking back, no turning back

Unless I choose, with heart alight,

To wander left or steer to right.

The simple joy of setting pace,

A smile that spreads across my face.

The words I speak, the songs I sing,

No stifled note, no silenced spring.

To voice the truth that dwells within,

Through laughter’s peal or sorrow’s din.

To stand my ground, and gently sway,

And have the right to have my say.

So freedom is this vibrant air,

A weightless spirit, light as prayer.

The power to choose, to think, to be,

The essence of my own decree.

A journey walked, a spirit bold,

A story waiting to unfold.
