Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?
“Maturity is not something I’ve fully embraced.” (Ask anyone who knows me!)
They say with age comes wisdom’s grace,
A calm resolve, a measured pace.
But here I am, a restless soul,
Still chasing stars I can’t control.
I’ve danced through decades, tripped and spun,
Not always proud of what I’ve done.
Mistakes still knock on memory’s door,
And I still make a few—and more.
I laugh too loud, I speak too fast,
I hold on tight to moments past.
I challenge rules I ought to keep,
And dream too wild when I should sleep.
Maturity, that noble guest,
Keeps sending word but won’t quite rest
Within this heart still prone to flame,
Still thrilled by life, still much the same.
Oh, I have learned a thing or two—
Like when to lie, and when to true,
Like how to love and when to yield,
And when to walk off life’s wide field.
But fully grown? Not quite, not yet.
I still have foolishness to let—
A spark, a grin, a rebel’s cry,
That won’t be tamed before I die.
So raise a glass, and let it spill—
To those who age but won’t sit still.
At 73, I claim my part:
Not mature—just young at heart.
