Describe a risk you took that you do not regret.

The Perilous Craft

To write a book, a daring feat,
A journey wrought with fire and sleet.
You birth your soul in silent ink,
And offer it for all to think.

~

Each word a risk, each line a leap,
From mountain’s edge to oceans deep.
You walk the cliff of truth and lies,
With critics perched like crows in skies.

~

What if they scoff, what if they jeer?
What if they twist what once was clear?
What if your thoughts, once bold and bright,
Are torn apart in public light?

~

The risk of heart laid bare and bruised,
Of passions mocked, of dreams misused.
The risk of toil that earns no praise,
Lost in the tides of louder days.

~

Yet still you write, though sense protests,
For restless minds must find no rest.
And though your book may fall unseen,
You’ve carved your name in inky sheen.

~

So write you must, though risk is great—
For silence is the darker fate.
And in your words, some soul might see
A kindred flame, and set it free.
