Describe one positive change you have made in your life.
The Gospel of Christ – Evangelical Viewpoint
At its core, the Gospel (Good News) of Christ is this:
God loves you, created you for a relationship with Him, and has made a way for you to be saved and restored through Jesus Christ.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
- God’s Design – God created the world and mankind to be in perfect relationship with Him. There was no sin, no death, no suffering. Humanity was created to walk with God in love, purpose, and freedom.
- The Problem – Sin – Humanity rebelled against God (starting with Adam and Eve), choosing their own way. That rebellion is what the Bible calls sin. Sin separates us from God, because He is holy and perfect, and we are not. The penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23), not just physical death, but spiritual death—eternal separation from God.
- God’s Rescue Plan – Jesus Christ – God, in His mercy, sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live a sinless life and then die as a sacrifice in our place. He took the punishment we deserved. But He didn’t stay dead—He rose from the dead, proving His power over sin, death, and hell.
- Our Response – Faith and Repentance – Salvation is a gift. We cannot earn it by being good or religious. We receive it by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). When someone believes that Jesus is the Son of God, confesses their sin, and surrenders their life to Him, they are saved. That person becomes a new creation—forgiven, adopted into God’s family, and given eternal life.
Why It’s Best to Live as a Follower of Christ, Not a Follower of Religion
“Religion” is often about external behavior—rules, rituals, traditions, appearances. But following Christ is about a relationship with the living God.
Here’s why following Christ is far better than following religion:
- Religion says “Do.”
Christ says, “It is done.” (John 19:30)
Religion tells you to work harder, be better, follow rules to get to God.
Jesus offers grace—He came to you, did the work, and offers forgiveness freely. - Religion can be hollow.
You can go through motions, attend services, and still feel lost.
But a real relationship with Jesus transforms you from the inside out. - Jesus offers freedom.
Religion can be a burden—trying to measure up.
Jesus said, “Come to Me… and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He offers peace, not pressure. - The Holy Spirit changes hearts.
Followers of Christ are given the Holy Spirit, who guides, convicts, comforts, and empowers. It’s not about striving; it’s about abiding in Him (John 15:5). - Purpose and identity.
Religion can confuse people about their worth. In Christ, your identity is secure—you’re a child of God, fully loved, and called with purpose.
In Summary:
The evangelical Gospel is not about joining a system, but meeting a Savior. Jesus didn’t die to make people more religious—He died to bring people home to God.
Living as a follower of Christ brings:
- Forgiveness of all sins
- Peace with God and within yourself
- Purpose in life, no matter your age or stage
- Power through the Holy Spirit
- Hope for eternity
Of course. Here’s a short and heartfelt prayer:
If you have questions, message me in the comments or email richard@victoriabaptist.org.uk
If you feel able, pray this short prayer…
“Lord Jesus,
Thank You for loving me, even when I didn’t deserve it.
I believe You died for my sins and rose again.
I ask You to forgive me, change my heart, and lead my life.
I don’t want empty religion—I want to know You, walk with You, and follow You every day.
Fill me with Your peace, Your strength, and Your Spirit.
Thank You for saving me. I am Yours.
Amen.“
