I thought it would be fun, interesting and educational if we discussed a Psalm in Haiku form. We will explore what it means to each of us, via the Holy Spirit.

A Haiku is a Japanese poetry form, simple concept. Each verse has 3 lines… First line has 5 syllables, Second line has 7 syllables, Third line has 5 syllables… It tends to micro focus on the point of your message…

So here we go! This is Psalm 10, in Haiku form

Haiku for Each Verse of Psalm 10

  1. Lord, where have You gone?
    In trouble, You seem distant,
    Hidden from our cries.
  2. The proud chase the poor,
Let them fall in their own traps,
    Snared by their own schemes.
  3. The wicked boast loud,
    Blessing greed, despising truth,
    God abhors their ways.
  4. Pride clouds wicked hearts,
They refuse to seek the Lord,
    God is far from them.
  5. Their ways bring sorrow,
    Your judgments are high above,
    They scoff at the just.
  6. “I will stand,” they claim,
“No trouble shall come to me,
    I shall not be moved.”
  7. Cursing, lies, deceit,
    Under tongues, mischief and fraud,
    Vanity consumes.
  8. In shadows they wait,
    Watching for the helpless ones,
    Plotting secret death.
  9. Like a lion still,
    Waiting, crouching for the weak,
    Drawing them to doom.
  10. He bows, seeming low,
But his strength traps the helpless,
    They fall in his grasp.
  11. God will never see,
The wicked man speaks in pride,
    He thinks God forgets.
  12. Arise, O my God!
Lift Your hand and see the poor,
    Forget them no more.
  13. Why do they mock You?
They think You will not judge them,
    But You see it all.
  14. Lord, You have beheld,
You will act for the helpless,
    Father to the lost.
  15. Break the wicked’s arm,
Seek out all their evil ways,
    Leave no sin unjudged.
  16. The Lord reigns as King,
The nations that stood in pride,
    Now fade from the land.
  17. You hear the humble,
You prepare and touch their hearts,
    You will hear their cries.
  18. Judge the fatherless,
    Break the oppressor’s strong hand,
    Let the earth be free.
