“You know, it’s all quite splendid,”
Said the old man dressed in red,
“It’s splendid, splendid, splendid,”
He shouted from his sled.
“That Christmas time should come again
Like clockwork every year.
So, I bring you all glad tidings
Good wishes and great cheer.
Enjoy yourselves, my little flock
Good food, good wine and beer.
It’s splendid, splendid, splendid
That Christmas time is near.”
The crowd looked back bewildered
They didn’t understand
hey knew it happened each December,
Just as it was planned.
But as for Christmas cheer they thought
This bloke is off his rocker
They laughed at him, they jeered at him,
Everyone a mocker.
“It’s July the fourth you moron,
It’s Independence Day
More than half a year to go.
Before we have to pay
For presents that nobody wants
But each of us has to say:
“It’s what I’ve always wanted
(I’ll regift it back one day)””
In this commercial world we live
It’s really hard to fathom
Why Christmas starts so early now
Just halfway through the annum.
And Easter eggs are on display
In January each year.
If you remind them what it really means
You only get a sneer.
Christmas is not for children
Festivities, wine and beer
It’s all about a Saviour
The Holy one come near.

A poignant reflection on the commercialization of Christmas. Your words highlight the irony of a season meant to celebrate the birth of a Savior being overshadowed by consumerism. A timely reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

Commercialisation of festivals is rampant everywhere! I love the opening lines of your poem, so lively and upbeat.
