Dawning – A Poem

A new day is dawning.

A modern era is upon us.

A world is born.

The post-millennial age…

Clichés each and every one.

Irrelevant all.

Pointless.

Demeaning to the ears.

Sayings which should be obliterated.

Vanished.

Expunged.

Erased from all literature.

Cut from the tongues that speak it.

Then…

Dipping quill into crimson mixed with spittle.

We will compose a fresh diatribe.

Then will arise a new patois of garbled nonsense.

The gibberish of modern youth

Or…

The nonsensical mutterings of old age.

Acrolect and basilect

Sociolinguistic labels

The upper and lower boundaries of words

Joy to the wordsmith

But meaningless and lost to most.

But now, at the dawning of that new age.

Oh bugger! I just used a cliché!
